INNOVATIVE
DESIGN THROUGH CONTINUOUS RESEARCH

SA_2012

Sociable Asymetry
2012

Together with installation artist Ruairi Glynn, we are currently  developing a unique architectural scale robot that at first appearance, when static, is simply a towering structure. The aluminium frame will give no visual clues that it is in fact a living and sociable creature that comes to life as people draw closer. Its movements will be uncanny, so human in motion, yet so inhuman in form.

MC_2011

Motive Colloquies
Pompidou Centre, Paris
June 2011

An interactive installation and performance, developed through a collaboration between interaction designers, architects and performance artists. Its principal performer, a 3 metre high responsive robot, interacts with its audience’s gestures while it waits for the arrival of its human co-performers.

RCE_2011

Responsive Catenary Structure

The process of creating structures have been expanded from only geometrical considerations towards a more complex relationships, creating complex forms, associating generative process that could respond to optimization purposes or even finding responses to a changing environment.

SIM_2011

Physics Simulation

Custom physics simulation software for structural topology generation.

These simulations allow us to define structurally optimised surfaces and meshes that can be transformed into efficient architectures

KDR_2011

Kinect-controlled
delta robot

Experiment on non conventional interfaces.
Digital Ecologies
AAC Msc UCL

A Delta-Robot is controlled by a Kinect through Processing and Arduino. The movements of the performer control directly the position of the robot's effector, and the rotation and opening of the gripper.

SC_2011

Space Controller

An Android based phone sends OSC data to a Processing sketch, controlling a “manipulator” that interacts with a cloud of self-organising agents and modifies its configuration.

The resulting structure is the combination of the actions of the performer, and the internal rules driving the agents

MR_2010

Mesh Relaxation

Simple implementation of a mesh relaxation. The nodes are repelled by any other node standing closer than a minimum distance, generating a self-organising behaviour, with triangular and hexagonal shapes emerging..

FE_2010

Facede Explorer

Parametric model of a standard office building facade. Every dimension can be altered to explore glass ratios, spandrel dimensions, shading elements and overal geometry.

ML_2010

Custom Software for the the project "Glorieta Juan Carlos I"

The space planning of the square was generated with custom software implementing a Voronoi algorithm to subdivide the space into circulations and activity areas. This interactive application allowed for a public consultation  process that took place in Mula, giving the citizens the opportunity to actively participate in the design process by proposing their own designs.

VE_2010

Virtual Ecosystem

Installation consisting in a cloud of self-organising elements, reacting to the modifications of  their  their environment.

IDS_2009

Improvisation on a Digital Surface

Digital experiment

A performer interacts with the space through light sensors and resistors making it evolve with the music in real time.
Developed with Processing, and Arduino.
